Teachers must be more organized than any others. They have many school assignments, homework, test, quizzes and projects they assign to students. In addition to that there are also staff meetings, school events, school holidays and other functions that they must organize their teaching around. Learning proper organizational skills for teachers is the only way they can be successful. Teachers should have many files, each organizing carefully what has already been assigned to students and what has yet to be assigned. Test and quizzes should also be likewise organized. All work should be clearly dated and students should be taught to do likewise. This will make it easy for marking and grading.
Parents also regularly demand that organizational skills for teachers are well developed and therefore lead to good and open communication with parents. Parents like to know what is happening at school, what is happening with their children and what they can do to give more support to their children. Teachers should organize into their schedules time to communicate with parents. They can send letters home with children when beginning a new unit or when projects may require parents help. Communication with parents may also include letters from the school; make sure students know that they are to give these to their parents. When there are special events make sure children tell their parents. In some cases letters may require response on the side of the parents. This will make them feel involved and they will be happy to know what is going on at school. Well trained organizational skills for teachers will result in good communication with parents.
Important organizational skills for teachers include dividing the school year up into different units. Children should know when units begin and end and will get used to following the pattern. They will feel secure and confident about what is coming next and what they will face each day at school. Teach children how to organize their work. Encourage them to have binders or folders for each subject and to keep pending assignments and work due immediately separate. Teachers should also have a system for helping students who missed classes to catch up. They may set up a station for past work and assignments, and students will go to these stations during free time, or if they finish other in class assignments early they can take advantage of that time to catch up.
Encourage students to keep track of school events and projects on a calendar. When organizational skills for teachers are mastered they will pass these skills on to students. If lessons are well planned teachers will not find that they need to rush through the material. There will be enough time for everything and teachers will not run out of things to do. Students will be kept busy and feel a sense of accomplishment when they see the things they've succeeded in doing. Organization skills for teachers are just as important, if not more important than for students. Students can only learn if their teachers are well organized and pass these skills on to their students.
